mission thailand
Welcome to the official MissionThailand website! This is where you can stay updated with all the goings on with my ministry in Thailand.
If you're new, I am Sara Whitehurst. In 2001 I went on my first mission trip. That led to several more short term trips. In 2011 God called me to be a missionary full time. I had been to several countries before God called me to Thailand.
In 2012 I arrived in Thailand for the first time. Thailand is different than all the other countries I've been to. The bustling city with malls and fast food and air conditioning was a stark difference to the slums I had seen in other places. In my frustration that God would bring me here when so many others don't so much as have a bed or clean water, He graciously opened my eyes to see the spiritual poverty I was overlooking because of the seeming lack of physical poverty.
As I opened my heart to see what God sees I soon fell in love with Thailand. The people, the food, the beautiful scenery. More than that, I became painfully aware of the hopelessness and striving that the people of Thailand are burdened with. A burden only Jesus can alleviate.
did you know…
- Thailand is 95% Buddhist, 4% Muslim, and 1% Christian.
- Over 88% of Thailand has never heard the Good News.
- Though it claims to be an open country where you are free to choose your religion, many Christians face opposition and can even be ostracized from their family or village.
- Statistically it takes 7 years for a Buddhist to fully convert to Christianity.
- Often times they will practice Christianity before they profess it.
